The Residential Education staff at the University of Southern California provides housing and support services for 9,000+ students living within USC Housing.  The Office for Residential Education is committed to providing purposefully inclusive communities that create opportunities for personal and academic success in collaboration with members of the Trojan Family. Our vision is to create residential communities which cultivate and enrich students by integrating learning, engagement, and development. We contribute to students’ academic success by offering student-centered programs, services and environments that foster student involvement, responsibility, and leadership. The Office for Residential Education consists of 30 full-time professional staff members, 18 faculty in residence, 15 graduate assistants, and over 200 resident assistants.

The Residential Experience Coordinator position is a full-time, professional staff member who plays an integral role in creating a residential life program that encourages student and community engagement and development of a supportive living and learning environment. The Residential Experience Coordinator plays a significant role in creating a robust residential experience for all USC Housing residents.  This position will assist the Assistant Director for Residential Experience in the implementation of large-scale events including elements of Move-In, Welcome Week, and the overall Welcome Experience in both Fall and Spring semesters.  In addition, this position will help plan, coordinate, and facilitate events on a semi-weekly basis for all USC Housing residents.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Implement activities/events focused on providing a robust residential experience

  • Indirectly supervise, train, and evaluate the Residential Experience graduate assistants and student workers

  • Regularly assess the events and services to ensure a sense of belonging and connection to USC

  • Create and distribute event advertisements through various communication platforms such as email, newsletters, social media, and printed materials.

  • Manage, track, and reconcile individual expenses and budgets tied to events and activities

  • Maintain individual meetings with your Assistant Director and other Residential Experience support staff

  • Provide resources and support for the Residential Education programs, services, and support systems

  • Maintain a weekly work schedule with many weekend and night commitments

  • Other duties as assigned by the Director for Residential Education

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree is required.  Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education.

  • Work Experience: 1 year, combined education/experience as substitute for minimum experience

  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

  • Computer Skills: Adept user of Internet, e‐mail and other office automation systems, MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Residential Experience

  • Plan, coordinate, implement and evaluate large-scale events and other elements of the Residential Experience as outlined by our residential experience & engagement model

  • Regularly assess the events and services to ensure a sense of belonging and connection to USC

  • Create and distribute event advertisements through various communication platforms such as email, newsletters, social media, and printed materials

  • Responsible for content updates to the USC calendar and engagement software

  • Manage databases for event management and assessment reports

  • Liaise with Campus Activities to ensure collaboration on large-scale events

  • Serve as a programming resource for staff and students, providing information about the campus and community contacts

  • Indirectly supervise, train, and evaluate the Residential Experience graduate assistants and student workers

Administrative Functions

  • Manage, track, and reconcile individual expenses and budgets tied to events and activities

  • Maintain accurate records and receipts for the Workday financial reconciliation processes

  • Develop a working knowledge of the Office for Residential Education operations and resources

  • Develop a strong working relationship with members of Campus Activities, Trojan Event Services, USC Housing, USC Hospitality, and external vendors

  • Maintain work schedule designed to provide maximum accessibility and involvement with staff and students.

  • Demonstrate effective communication, planning, and organizational skills as they relate to job responsibilities

Departmental Duties

  • Attend, participate, and lead your area/vertical meetings

  • Attend regularly scheduled one on one supervisory meetings with you supervisor

  • Assist in the recruitment and selection of residential experience graduate assistants and student workers

  • Assist in the departmental training of professional and student staff members

  • Develop working relationships with key campus partners, including but not limited to:  Office of the Vice President of Student Affairs, USC Housing, Campus Activities, Trojan Events Services, Cultural Relations and University Events (CRUE), USC Hospitality, USC Transportation, Department of Public Safety (DPS), Student Equity and Inclusion Programs, and other campus offices.

  • Attend events and programs sponsored by the department and/or the Division of Student Affairs, including those that periodically occur on weekends and evenings

  • Wear appropriate attire for office hours, central staff functions, and all meetings

  • Other duties as assigned by the department

Professional Development

  • Participate in professional development opportunities sponsored by the Office for Residential Education and the Division of Student Affairs

  • A limited amount of professional development funds are available annually to attend workshops or conferences supported by their individual professional development plan

Minimum Education:
Bachelor’s degree, Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education

Minimum Experience:

Minimum Field of Expertise:
