Job Purpose

Mentored and managed by the Head of Talent, the Talent & Capability Manager will contribute to UPPs success through the development, retention and succession of our future leaders.  In line with our ‘People, Performance, Potential’ strategy, you will lead the creation and management of our future talent pools and development programmes, from Entry Level talent to Executive Director succession.  Your focus is on inclusive, organic growth that not only improves the capability of our future leaders, but also mobilises talent across the organisation.  

Operating as a ‘centre of excellence’ in the areas of talent management & capability building, you will work with stakeholders across operational and corporate functions to lead our approach to creating a learning culture; enabling our people to drive their own development through a variety of blended learning solutions, tools and channels. 

You will have a strong focus on demonstrating ROI and effectiveness through the use of metrics and MI.  You will be the expert and ambassador for our LMS, ensuring our people have an engaging digital learning experience.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Working with our HR Business partner team and business leaders, develop a deep understanding of UPP, enabling you to advise on content, practices and programmes that truly meet the needs of our people.
  • Design and deliver an ambitious and engaging leadership development plan, aligned to our Building Futures corporate strategy.  Focused on driving leadership performance and unlocking the potential of our future leaders. 
  • Lead the creation and continuous improvement of our leadership talent pools, including apprenticeships and internships.  Design, deliver and manage a suite of blended learning that will contribute to our improved retention, engagement and leadership pipeline.
  • Create strong working relationships with our existing external partners, whilst identifying new partners to support and drive our development strategy in a cost-effective way
  • Research the latest industry trends, challenges and best practise to support and inform our strategy within workstreams such as EDI, Engagement and ESG ‘Social’.
  • Advocate technological enablement of development activities wherever possible to enhance empowerment, inclusivity & experience at optimal cost.
  • Determine metrics & dashboards that will measure the effectiveness of our activities and enable a more data driven, predictive way of approaching talent & leadership development. 
  • Become the LMS (Workday Learning) expert, ensuring the business understands how to use the system and working with key stakeholders to continually improve the user experience.
  • As Chair of the Mandatory Learning Committee, drive continuous improvement and manage the governance and compliance of our corporate Mandatory Learning curriculum.
  • Work with key stakeholders such as the Internal Comms function and HR Business Partner team to drive high levels of use of learning resources.
  • Manage all leadership development interventions within a defined budget, ensuring tracking and delivery of clear and measurable return on investment for everything that is delivered
