Job Description Summary

Wake Forest University is hiring an experienced FP&A professional to serve as the primary functional administrator and report writer for our Workday Adaptive Planning application. This position will serve to lead Workday Adaptive Planning strategic and optimization efforts working in a collaborative manner with stakeholders on the Reynolda campus. This position designs and implements Workday solutions including financial reporting design and development. Serves as subject matter expert on Workday Adaptive Planning and utilizes best practices in alignment with the university’s financial reporting strategies. This is a functional role reporting through the Budget office and candidates are expected to have knowledge and expertise in budgeting, forecasting, and strategic planning activities in order to properly support our Adaptive application.

Job Description

Essential Functions:

  • Lead Workday / Adaptive Planning projects involving strategy, implementation support, and optimization related to Finance, HR and Information Technology (IT) reporting, business processes, security, and data integrity for the Adaptive Planning application.
  • Serves as Subject Matter Expert for Workday Adaptive Planning application across the campus.  Maintains best practices knowledge of use of Adaptive Planning, Workday and forecasting tools to recommend enhancements and optimization.
  • Administers functions, such as maintaining planning models, dimensions, integrations (Workday and external), security/user access, and reporting.
  • Supports budget process activities in alignment with Wake Forest University’s budget timeline
    • Leads the development of new functionality in Adaptive to support the needs of the Budget Office and campus stakeholders.
    • Ongoing awareness of Workday releases for new functionality that may be applicable to the University; testing and validating new release functionality to ensure compatibility with Wake Forest University’s environment.
  • Leads Workday / Adaptive budget reporting design efforts in partnering with stakeholders in a collaborative manner to design meaningful financial and operational reports.
    • Develops and maintains centralized reports and dashboards utilized across campus, leading evaluation of new report requests from the University community Document Adaptive system design and standard operating procedures in accordance with university policy.
    • Prepares ad hoc analysis in coordination with budget and financial planning staff and in collaboration with the controller’s office and campus stakeholders.
    • Develops and executes detailed test plans to ensure that reports meet the original specifications and run efficiently, securely and correctly.  Coordinates test efforts with stakeholders, Information Systems, Financial Services and third parties as needed.
  • Leads training and support activities for Adaptive across Campus, including the development of training materials, QRGs (quick reference guides), recorded sessions, and other training modalities
  • Utilizes Project Management skills for optimization projects, upgrades or to implement new functionality, delivering in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Communicates regularly with stakeholders to understand the needs of the colleges and units.  Leads mentoring and training efforts specific to budget processes and tools.
  • Participates on university committees and work groups with ability to explain trends or present key ideas verbally, through use of data analytics, dashboards or PowerPoint presentations.
  • Performs other related functions and duties as required.

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a business, accounting or computer science-related major and at least five years of experience with ERP reporting and related applications or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience with Workday and Adaptive Planning budget application
  • Detailed understanding of Adaptive Planning processes and best practices
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (including Excel, Visio, PowerPoint) and Google Workspace
  • Ability to represent analysis results and or projections in PowerPoint presentations and Excel graphs. Experience creating compelling visualizations to communicate data insights effectively.
  • Accuracy in analysis, accounting, reporting and presentations
  • Strong logical and analytical problem-solving skills; strong critical thinking skills with attention to
  • Exceptional organizational skills, detail orientated, and a proven ability to follow projects and issues through to completion
  • Must be comfortable in an environment that places high emphasis on collaboration, continuous improvement, teamwork, and excellent customer service
  • Prior experience with report development and project management methodology and practices. 
  • Experience leading Adaptive Planning design, process alignment detailed understanding of EPM and/or ERP system concepts and general functionality

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • MBA and/or CPA
  • Minimum of five years of experience as an Adaptive Planning Lead with consulting or implementation experience
  • Certification in Workday Adaptive Planning (Workday Reporting certification is preferred)
  • Experience with other reporting tools such as Cognos, Workday Report Writer, Tableau, PowerBI or data access tools such as mySQL
  • Experience in budgeting, financial modeling and or strategic planning
  • Experience in higher education and related best practices and leading-edge technologies
  • Experience providing direct supervision or training to Finance staff as needed
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community; proven communication skills, both verbally and in writing
