Job Description

Western Nevada College is recruiting for a Personnel Technician 1 at the Carson City, NV campus location. The Personnel Technician 1 will provide support to the Human Resources Department and serve as the on-boarding specialist. The ideal candidate should be motivated to provide an outstanding onboarding experience and be creative in developing new procedures. Duties will include:

Onboarding Employees

Serves as the onboarding specialist. As new or rehired employees complete the hire process and enter the onboarding phase in the HR information system, Workday, this position: sets up the on-boarding appointments prior to their first day of work, assists employees in accessing email and Workday for the first time, guides employees through the onboarding process within Workday, conducts new hire orientation as part of the onboarding process to ensure that new employees have an outstanding experience, answers questions regarding employment and benefits, provides a tutorial of Workday employee self-service features, ensures that I-9 employment eligibility requirements have been met, processes all employment/benefit enrollment forms, and works closely with the Financial Aid, Student Coordinator for onboarding student workers.

Training & Development

Serves as the training coordinator, communicates with supervisors and employees on mandatory training, assigns training and manages the training records, manages the learning management platform, Vector.

Human Resources Office Support

Provides administrative support for the HR team including: general clerical duties, employee support, answering general HR and payroll questions, assisting employees and supervisors through Workday business processes, coordinating employment verifications, maintaining office supply inventory, providing support to other HR staff with special projects, assisting with all employee events, and other projects as requested. Ensures compliance with applicable statutes, laws, rules, procedures, and guidelines. Serves on appropriate WNC committees.

Human Resources Website 

Manages the HR website: provide updates as needed, uploads documents, updates the website with training communication and event details, and works closely with the Digital Content Producer to ensure that the content within the HR webpage is up to date.

Record Management and Reporting

Manages employee files and training documentation in Workday. Runs and distributes Workday reports.

Required Qualifications

  • This position requires graduation from high school or equivalent education and two (2) years of clerical experience that included extensive public contact and customer service, recordkeeping, document processing, and the application of policies and regulations; OR

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Workday, Microsoft Office, and Google Workspace

Experience at a State of Nevada agency, or similar civil service setting

Schedule

The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm and requires flexibility to work a varied schedule that may include an occasional evening; this is subject to change based on organizational needs.

Compensation Grade

Grade 25

The classified employee pay scale is divided into 10 steps within each grade. Most employees start at a step 1 and are eligible for an annual step increase with satisfactory performance, until they reach the maximum, step 10. Classified employees are eligible for any legislatively approved cost of living increases (COLA).

Grants-in-aid for Classified Employees
