About the Team

As a Technical Product Manager in our Tooling organization, you will be at the foundation of Workday’s technology, driving internal tooling products that empower engineering teams to develop and deliver high-quality features quickly. Our team currently serves the 2000+ Workday development community by providing scalable development tools that are necessary to support an efficient and continuous delivery platform. We are a team of highly skilled full-stack engineers capable of performing tasks at any level of our technical-stack and are seeking out a seasoned product owner that can help define and evolve our product roadmap. We have a work environment that is not driven by external product launches but is driven by the needs of our development community, which allows us to focus on producing well thought out solutions that enhance our development environment and pipeline.

This senior product hire will come with proven work experience in programming languages, compilers, IDEs, and other application development, test, and deployment tooling domains.  You will work closely with existing teams of senior engineers and architects to complete the development and release of key parts of our expanding application development environment. The right person will have both deep engineering and a career interest in product management, along with the desire to lead the product direction.

About You

Responsibilities:

  • Quickly come up to speed on our current development platform.
  • Understand and support the architecture of our new application development tools
  • Work with internal application development teams to ensure their understanding and rapid adoption of new tooling.
  • Take ownership, groom and maintain/author prioritized scrum backlog of themes, epics and stories in prioritized order.
  • Work with engineers on the effective design t and usable implementation of each story, epic and theme.
  • Coordinate with fellow product owners to deliver sophisticated cross team improvements that positively impact the productivity of our entire development organization.
  • Become the subject matter for languages / IDEs and support the update, adoption and migration to a new state-of-the art development environment.
  • Coordinate with project and program managers to rollout new improvements and refine the platform based on continual feedback.

You should have:

  • BS/MS degree in Computer Science or equivalent relevant work experience
  • Domain specific language design / use
  • Build management / tool chain
  • Integrated Development Environments (IDE)
  • SaaS deployment
  • Application developer (Java, C/C++, C#, Objective C, Python, JavaScript)
  • Object Oriented Design / UML modeling
  • HTTP, HTML, JSON and other key web standards
  • Experience with SaaS and PaaS
  • Knowledge of various PaaS vendors and offerings

Skills:

  • Ability to lead technical workers by exhibiting technical competence
  • Ability to manage outcomes through others / motivate / influencing / driving
  • Ability to work closely with senior engineers
  • Ability to work with application developers as your primary customer of your features
  • Ability clearly articulate the benefits of various product requirements
  • Ability to force rank and prioritize the business value of each item in the backlog
