At Wycliffe Bible Translators, your work is more than just a job. As Controller for Wycliffe Bible Translators and the Wycliffe Foundation, you will assist the Senior Controller in overseeing business operations, accounting, audits, financial reporting and planned gift administration to support Bible translation efforts worldwide. Your role ensures the effective stewardship of resources and the operational health of Wycliffe USA and related organizations.

You’ll partner with the Finance leadership and other team members through:

  • Prayer and mission support: engage in prayer and advocacy to support Bible translation and inspire global participation.

  • Deliver high-quality service to facilitate the receipt and distribution of resources that support WUSA’s efforts in accelerating Bible translation.

  • Collaboration and continuous improvement: collaborate with the team, participate in cross-functional initiatives and contribute to projects that enhance staff experience and support our mission.

Responsibilities

You’ll make an impact as you:

  • Faithfully and regularly pray for the ongoing work of Bible translation and for people from around the world to experience transformation.

  • Act as an organizational representative presenting the global ministry of Wycliffe and encouraging interested individuals, organizations and churches to participate in the work of Bible translation. 

  • Live out the conviction that “work flows through relationship” by passionately “loving God and loving people” through word and deed. Promote team and organizational culture standards, ensuring high customer service standards.

  • Represent the Finance team in meetings, projects, workshops and partnership efforts, as assigned.

  • Work alongside the Senior Controller, VP, CFO and other team members  to:

  • Oversee and coordinate audits for both Wycliffe Foundation and Wycliffe Bible Translators, ensuring regulatory compliance.

  • Oversee all financial reporting i.e. MFR, reconciliations, month-end and year-end close processes and IRS filings

  • Provide strategic oversight of budgeting processes for the Corporate Accounting and Wycliffe Foundation departments, ensuring financial stewardship and alignment with Wycliffe’s strategic priorities.

  • Manage financial service processes to include A/P (checks & wires), expense reimbursement, departmental journals, corporate credit card program, financial account administration, PARCS, member accounting, etc.

  • Continuously evaluate the financial processes and service needs of Wycliffe members and departments to optimize our capacity to meet the increasing demands of Bible translation.

  • Oversee the administration of Wycliffe and Wycliffe Foundation’s business banking accounts.

  • Assist in managing planned gift processes, including trusts, annuities, gifts-in-kind (GIK) and real estate, to safeguard assets and maximize future growth.

  • Manage sensitive accounting matters with integrity.

  • Assist the Senior Controller in managing and overseeing investment portfolios, including Corporate, Trust, Donor-Advised Funds (DAF) and Annuity Funds. This includes:

  • Monitoring investment performance and compliance with organizational policies.

  • Overseeing investment accounting processes to ensure accuracy and completeness.

  • Ensuring that all investment transactions are properly recorded and reflected in customer accounts.

  • Verifying accurate financial reporting related to investments in alignment with accounting standards and regulatory requirements.

  • Provide direction and oversight to the accounting and reporting of audit,  financial and gift planning activities of Wycliffe Bible Translators and Wycliffe Foundation, including monitoring of federal and state fiduciary and insurance regulatory compliance applicable to trusts and annuity investment and reserve requirements. 

  • Lead team members responsible for special gifts including, but not limited to, GIK, real estate, cryptocurrency, oil and mineral rights and other GIK needs.

  • Work with the Controller, VP for Finance and Gift Administration team to ensure all planned gifts are set up, administered and invested in a manner that maximizes the probability of safeguarding the value of gifts and managing them to maximize future asset growth as guided by the objectives of each account and investment policy. 

  • Foster a culture of high standards of customer service that is extended to donors, agreement holders and Gift Planning Advisors through effective written and verbal communications. Ensure that confidential and sensitive donor information is properly handled, controlled and secured. 

  • Ensure that the senior accountants and outside consultants complete year-end tax reporting for all planned gift agreements and annuities in a timely and accurate manner. 

  • Manage all investment and bank account reconciliations as well as accounting and financial reporting, including the issuance of monthly internal financial statements by coordinating timely and accurate month-end and year-end close processes for WUSA and WF. 

  • Review and distribute various financial and management month-end reports for use by leadership and the WUSA and WF boards.

  • Coordinate the year-end audit for the WF and WUSA by planning and directing the preparation of audit schedules, answering the inquiries of auditors and reviewing audit work papers and findings.

  • Champion and hold the team accountable to organizational culture standards and demonstrate spiritual maturity.

  • Supervisory Responsibilities: Directly or indirectly supervise 5-15 staff, providing leadership, mentoring and performance management in alignment with Wycliffe’s policies and values

  • Travel Requirements: Some travel may be expected for this position.

  • Other duties as assigned by the Controller, VP for Finance and/or CFO.

  • Job Knowledge: 

    • Knowledge of nonprofit accounting and gift planning principles and software for mid-size or larger organizations preferred. 

    • Comprehensive knowledge of accounting, including GAAP principles for investment transactions and/or advanced knowledge of trust fiduciary principles and applications is preferred.

  • Technical Skills: 

    • Proficiency in Google Suite, Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat. 

    • Working knowledge of Workday and Adaptive preferred. 

    • Extensive experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software (i.e., Salesforce, GiftWrap, Ren iPhi).

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, auditing, or a related field, plus 7-10 years of relevant experience in planned gift administration, corporate finance, financial strategy, or investment management, with a proven track record in progressive financial management, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

  • A CPA designation is preferred, though not required.

Compensation

The pay range for this position is $79,718.60 – $92,672.87. Actual pay rate may be higher based on various factors such as qualifications, skills and experience, required training, licensure and/or certifications, budget and allocation, if applicable. Additionally, the range for this position is based upon and considers Wycliffe’s non-profit ministry environment.
