NATURE AND SCOPE:
Reporting directly to the Director of Human Resources, the Human Resources Specialist will assist and guide Early Learning and YMCA managers and employees on a broad range of HR policies, programs, and practices across a decentralized organization. The successful HR Specialist will manage and build value-based relationships with managers and employees and be seen as a trusted consultant. Working in close partnership across the internal functions and teams, the HR Specialist will help to maintain a positive climate by proactively providing guidance to managers and responding to inquiries.
RESPONSIBILITIES (including, but not limited to):
- Conduct reviews of employee relations matters including investigations with a high sense of urgency. Document all findings from investigations, and consult with management on recommendations for employment action based upon findings.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to consult on corrective action matters. Review corrective action entries into HCM system (Workday).
- Maintain required documentation including intake and investigation notes, supporting documents and final reports and/or evidence of action taken.
- Work with the front-line management on highlighting key trends in employee relations and actively drive process improvement.
- Partner with the HR team to provide metrics to assess where action can be taken to mitigate risk and improve overall employee experience.
- Serve as a facilitator of New Hire Orientation.
- Assist with policy revisions and serve as a consultant utilizing data to determine where revisions may be necessary.
- Manage the unemployment claims process, including completing initial requests for information before deadlines and filing timely appeals. Escalate hearings as appropriate to Tier 2 and Tier 3 support.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for HR confidential case management systems.
- Provide superior employee experience support and adhere to Service Level Agreements (SLA).
- Partner with on-site liaisons and members of the HR team to ensure employee file compliance as well as Federal, State, and Local compliance posting requirements.
- Serve as a subject matter expert and resource for HR policies and practices, state and federal laws, and company HR standard operating procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources or related degree OR 3+ years of applicable job experience in post-employment HR
- Experience consulting and coaching with all levels of management
- Critical thinking
- Must have the ability to handle confidential and sensitive information
- A working knowledge of HCM systems
- Knowledge and understanding of Federal, State, and Local employment law
- Strong oral and written communication skills, including experience writing detailed investigation summaries
- Ability to travel up to 25% to various locations
- Ability to focus on a computer for long periods of time and handle repetitive keyboard work
- Local candidate – no relocation assistance will be provided for the position
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources or a related discipline
- 3+ years of experience in HR handling employee relations matters with a consultative approach
- Subject matter expertise in area of focus
- HR certification (PHR/SPHR; SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP)
- 2+ years of experience with HCM software preferred – Workday experience a plus
