THE ROLE

Reporting to the Payroll Director, this working supervisor position oversees the day-to-day processing of Canada and multi-state US payrolls. The Payroll Supervisor will demonstrate a sustained high level of professionalism, discretion, and focus on the Shared Services payrolls and our team environment. The supervisor must have a high level of customer service relationship building skills along with the ability to work on multiple projects at the same time while overseeing individuals on the team.

WHAT THIS ROLE WILL DO

  • Supervise staff of Payroll Specialists in a fast paced, high volume environment.

  • Manage priorities among staff, monitor status and review completed work

  • Assist Payroll Specialists with payroll balancing, troubleshooting and resolution of payroll issues to meet transmission deadlines

  • Create and/or process ad-hoc reports to support HR, local administrators, and others as needed

  • Able to process stock, special earnings and deduction transactions.

  • Responsible for processing off-cycle payroll corrections and adjustments as needed

  • Maintain high level of customer service including timely response to inquiries via phone or e-mail

  • Work closely with HR department to ensure accurate benefit deductions and employee record keeping

  • Maintain secure and accurate payroll files

  • Assist with quarter and year end reporting and balancing of payroll records

  • Assist with internal and external audit requests

  • Responsible for understanding and complying with all policies, procedures, and regulations relating to job duties and responsibilities

  • Set clear expectations, responsibilities, and goals for all staff to measure success and review and evaluate performance of payroll staff.

  • Review process efficiency within the team and work closely with management to ensure efficiency of the payroll function

  • Perform other duties as assigned by management

  • Maintain confidentiality of payroll information

  • Special projects as needed

WHAT THIS PERSON WILL BRING

  • Minimum of 5 years experience with a high-volume payroll

  • Minimum of 5 years payroll supervisory experience

  • Multi state experience that includes California preferred

  • High School Diploma or GED required

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred

  • Experience as a lead resource on projects or experience facilitating teams

  • Strong knowledge of Canada jurisdictional/territorial laws

  • ADP and Workday experience preferred

  • Strong knowledge of Canada judicial/territorial laws

  • Strong PC Skills including proficiency in Excel

  • Payroll experience in an organization with 5000 + employees

  • Strong work ethic and team player

  • Strong customer service skills

  • Strong interpersonal (verbal and written) communication skills

  • High level of attention to detail

  • Ability to comfortably work in a fast-paced time sensitive environment

  • Organizational, multi-tasking, and prioritizing skills

  • Working knowledge of payroll best practices.

  • US federal, state and local tax knowledge​
